Receipt Litigation

Law.com reports that "litigation mounts over retail chains' data-rich sales receipts":
The suits in New Jersey charge Toys "R" Us outlets, Quick-Chek convenience stores, Hess gas stations and Avis and Budget car rental companies with putting too much identifying information on credit card and debit card receipts.

Suits filed elsewhere make similar charges against such companies as IKEA, Costco, Victoria's Secret and Rite-Aid.

More suits are on the way, due to the sheer volume of potential claimants. Lawyers for plaintiffs and defendants say that anyone who checks his or her credit card receipts will find identifying data that violate the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, 15 U.S.C. 1681c(g)(1).

I'm not sure why stores even offer receipts at all.
